The month of January, named after Janus, the Roman god of passage and new beginnings, is a time of both celebration and reflection. It’s traditional to ring in the New Year with a celebratory glass of champagne, which was the inspiration for the January LIYF on Long Island natural dye collaboration. Seeking to embrace both the celebration and quiet of the season, Tabbethia and I decided to take advantage of the season’s abundance of pine cones as our natural dye source to achieve a subtle color, but we also wanted to add just a little bit of fun, so we used LIYF's Pink Clove yarn. When the light hits it just right, the slight shimmer of the icicle and the subtle pinks in the yarn underneath the pine cone dye is truly reminiscent of champagne, while the yarn overall embodies the serene calmness of winter. I collected the pine cones from Sans Souci County Park,  a 316 acre nature preserve located just around the block from my current home in Sayville. I frequent these trails, enjoying peaceful walks where I can clear my head and reset from the stressors of daily life. Sans Souci is French for “without worry” and it is my hope you will experience the same emotional quiet of serenity when knitting with this yarn as I often experience when I’m out in nature. ~Lisa~
