American LIYF with Strung out Knits - Hand Woven Project Bag / Wristlet / Zippered Pouch

From the artist Sarah Barca of Strung Out Knits….
“Each one of a kind bag has been hand woven using approximately 120 grams of various shades and weights of American raised & spun LIYF yarn using a rigid heddle loom. Plain weave was used to make a smooth strong fabric. Patterns in the weaving were created using the different colors and thickness of the yarn, along with stripes in the warp and weft.

The bottoms are made from leather "chap scrap". This leather comes from another local maker, she makes beautiful supple leather riding chaps. The chaps are cut from one large piece of leather leaving all the outside cutoff as "scraps". I buy those pieces of leather, helping her recover some of the leather cost and to keep them out of landfills. The leather cutoffs are still gorgeous and high quality, perfect for other smaller projects, like my bags.”

This collaboration between Tabbethia and Sarah was born of an idea thought up between the two during LIYF's most recent youtube series “The Twelve Days of Christmas”, where Tabbethia connects with and interviews a different person within the fiber community for 12 days straight.
