At the turn of the 20th Century, the noth shore of Long Island earned the nickname "The Gold Coast" thanks to the wealthy industrialists who built fabulous mansions along the edge of Long Island Sound.  Many of these homes still exist, although most are no longer private residences, having become museums, reception halls, or apartments.  This open-front cardigan, which uses clean, simple lines and a deceptively easy lace pattern, is constructed in only three pieces.  It was inspired by the famous Chanel jacket, a designer that the elegant Gold Coast matrons would have worn.
