Woodlea was the name of J.D. Adams' Bay Shore estate on Long Island where my grandfather was gardener; Adams' company made Chiclets Gum. The lovely neo-Tudor style house built in 1902 became a restaurant in the 1950s but then sadly burned to the ground under mysterious circumstances. The gauntlet of these rustic mitts evokes the protective gloves rose gardeners use. Knit in the round in stockinette and garter, these mitts are the perfect pattern to try for knitters new to fingerless mitts.
