Great River is a small hamlet on the south shore of Long Island, whose name is derived from its proximity to the Connetquot River. Connetquot is the Algonquin word for "great river". The seed stitch used in this hat pattern creates a pebbly texture such as one might find in such riverbeds. A fast knit with minimal shaping, this trendy slouchy hat is suitable for both men and women. Use less yarn for more of a beanie style, more yarn to enhance the slouch, or add a pompom for fun.
