Last year, our Adopt-a-Llama community joined us in welcoming YAHTZEE to the LIYF family and followed along through many of her first adventures. From llama shows and road trips to educational programs and life on the farm, her journey became one we shared together.

This year, while YAHTZEE remains an important part of the Adopt-a-Llama program and participants will continue to receive updates on her growth and accomplishments, we are excited to introduce the next chapter in the LIYF story: 4L&M; Dymond in the Rough.

At just eight months old, Dymond hopefully represents the future of our breeding program. Bred by Four Ladies and Me Llama Farm in East Bend, North Carolina, he comes from bloodlines I have long admired and respected. As an Eskalero great-grandson, his pedigree traces back to the breeding program of my llama bestie, Carol Reigh, at Buck Hollow Llama Farm, while his dam, CVL Marquis Dymond, was one of the most sought-after females of her generation.

As I evaluate the future of my own breeding program, I have been looking for opportunities to diversify genetics while also increasing the length of neck within my herd, all while maintaining the qualities that matter most to me: structural correctness, beautiful fiber, and exceptional temperament. Dymond checks many of those boxes.

Like YAHTZEE before him, however, this purchase is about more than pedigree and potential. Having shorn him this past spring, I found myself drawn to him long before I ever considered bringing him home. In fact, I was so impressed that I encouraged Michael West to bring him to the Gathering of Champions & Friends, where I would gladly help show him. When the opportunity later arose to purchase him, I found myself once again making a decision based not only on evaluation and experience, but also on instinct and heart.

Purchasing young animals is always a gamble. They still have years of growth and development ahead of them. Yet it is that uncertainty that makes following their journey so exciting.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this year's program is that participants will not only continue following YAHTZEE's story, but will also have the opportunity to watch Dymond mature alongside her. While any future breeding decisions will be made only after careful evaluation and time, our hope is that Dymond may someday become an important part of LIYF's future breeding program. If all goes according to plan, adopters who have followed both llamas from the beginning may one day witness the next chapter of their story together.

We invite you to join us as we welcome Dymond to Long Island Yarn and Farm and follow his journey through shows, training, farm life, and all the exciting milestones that lie ahead.

As we launch Year Two of our Adopt-a-Llama program, the timing feels especially meaningful. We are quite literally on the eve of the Gathering of Champions & Friends, where YAHTZEE's inaugural adoption year comes full circle while Dymond's journey with LIYF is just beginning. For the first time, adopters will have the opportunity to follow both llamas as they share the show ring and begin writing the next chapter of their story together.

As with our inaugural program, enrollment will remain open for a limited time before we close registration and begin our year-long journey together. We hope you'll join us as we follow these two young llamas through the adventures, milestones, and possibilities that lie ahead.

Every Adopt-a-Llama participant experiences the program a little differently. Some enjoy receiving occasional updates and knowing they are helping support our animals, while others love being deeply involved in the day-to-day adventures, shows, and milestones throughout the year. With that in mind, we've created four adoption levels, each offering its own unique experience.
